Go Green with Glass

It’s important to stay hydrated whilst exercising and it’s easy to do so without burdening the planet.

According to the World Economic Forum, if plastic consumption continues at the current rate, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.  Many businesses and cities have taken action to decrease plastic pollution by reducing straw and plastic bag use.  Other than using reusable straws and bringing shopping bags from home, another way to reduce plastic use is to decrease consumption of single—use plastic bottles.  Aside from using reusable bottles, consumers can also make the choice to purchase drinks sold in glass bottles instead.

Sustainability is a core value for Intenza, from the manufacturing process to packaging to hospitality

Unlike plastic, glass containers can be continuously reused without any detriment to the quality.  Glass as a material is 100% recyclable, allowing for optimal reproduction without any loss of material, and even when not recycled, glass is less damaging to the environment as production contributes less to carbon emissions than plastic; and glass contains no microparticles which could be harmful to marine life.

“[Glass] has an unlimited life and can be melted and recycled endlessly to make new glass products with no loss in quality.”
Robert Weisenburger, Executive Director, Glass Manufacturing Industry Council

Whilst using a refillable bottle is already more environmentally—friendly, perhaps a glass bottle is worth considering the next time you’re purchasing a reusable bottle.  Although glass is heavier than plastic, the benefits, both to yourself and to the environment, far outweigh the downsides.  Glass is non—porous, meaning it will not absorb any tastes or odours that can affect the liquid within.  The higher heat resistance of glass also means it can be used for warm liquids and cleaned in a dish washer.  Glass fragility concerns have also been reduced, with more and more brands offering lightweight glass bottles with biodegradable silicon sleeves, adding a layer of protection and personalisation.

Sustainability is a core value for Intenza, from the manufacturing process to packaging to our hospitality offerings.  Intenza branded sparkling mineral water, gifted to guests at tradeshows and showrooms, is packaged in sustainable glass bottles.  These bottles are collected after use for delivery to recycling plants.  It’s important to stay hydrated whilst exercising and it’s easy to do so without burdening the planet.  Beyond fitness and wellness, being more environmentally—conscious is just one way to contribute to a better #tomorrowtoday
